Ottawa Law Review Reunion
3rd Annual Alumni Reunion September 28th 2012
The OLR has planned an
amazing dinner to welcome back all of our editors and to provide you with an
exclusive networking opportunity.
The 3rd Annual Alumni Dinner will take place at Sidedoor
Restaurant (located in the Byward Market) on Friday September 28 @ 7
p.m.
The
Annual Alumni Dinner gives the current Board the chance
to network with past editors of the OLR and hear about their experiences, both
as members of the OLR and as distinguished members of the legal community. This
is a great opportunity to meet lawyers from firms you may be interviewing with
this fall! It is also an excellent occasion to meet other members of the OLR
and our faculty advisors.
Tickets can now be purchased online here and can also be purchased from OLR
Senior Board members in September.
Ottawa Law Review Reunion, 2011
On September 15th, 2011, the Ottawa Law Review celebrated
the achievements of its alumni and students at its 2nd Annual
Alumni Dinner. The event, which took place at a popular downtown restaurant,
provided a unique opportunity for faculty, students and alumni to gather and
reflect on their experiences at the Ottawa Law Review.
The
evening started with a short reception, which gave the opportunity for current
assistant and senior editors to meet some of their predecessors and discuss
with them the changes to the Ottawa Law Review since their own days as
students. Alumnus Nicholas Malone (2008-2009)kept the group entertained with
stories about his experience as editor-in-chief. He also highlighted the
benefits of his experience with the Reviewduring his clerkship at
the Federal Court of Appeal.
Those who attended were also delighted to hear speeches and anecdotes from Lynne Watt, partner in Gowlings’ Ottawa office, as well as from Mark Power, professor at the Faculty of Law and current faculty advisor to the Law Review.
Editor-in-chief Heather Michel said, “The annual alumni reunion is a terrific opportunity for our editorial board members to meet previous editors and to learn about a variety of interesting legal careers that exist. It’s also a fun opportunity for second and third year editors to get to know each other outside of the classroom”. Another editor-in-chief, Lars Brusven, added “The alumni dinner has done an excellent job of building links between our current and past editors. The event truly demonstrates that, as an Ottawa Law Review editor, you become part of a close-knit community which survives long after you have graduated from law school”. Current OLR members also took the opportunity to provide former editors current issues of the publication, and formally thank faculty members who have helped with the publication.
The alumni present at the reunion included Michael Henry (1985-1986), Adam Aptowitzer (2000-2001), Michael Aquilino (2005-2006), Lynne Watt (1991-1992),Yvonne Chenier(1979-1980), Nicholas Malone (2008-2009), Reuben East (2002-2003)and Ernie Tannis (1973-1974).
The following day the Ottawa Law Review held its welcome party for first year and returning common law students.
